The fact that Milwaukee police, fireman, and teachers are required to live within the city of surfaces from time to time, usually not much public outcry. But recently it coiled in a different way. .Gov Scott Walker proposed budget and the Bill of materials (BOM) Sen. Leah Vukmir (R-Lynnfield) call to eliminate the requirement that such communications be in writing.
This is natural to sympathize with the legislation and with those who would benefit from it, after all, the freedom to choose where one lives is more of the basic regulation, the American right.
At the same time are not widespread public clamor, you can reverse the policies even if the private angsten may occur. Also, people have agreed to as part of the terms and conditions of employment, so this is not a form of coercive means inescapably.
But this issue was mentioned in the year for the optimisation of the Journal Sentinel Editorial earlier this year: the City of Milwaukee asserts that "the parts of the United States Census Bureau, the city's police officers and teachers, with the help of sound in the interest of the city." This seems almost an indisputable and quite important on its own merits. Mayor Tom Barrett and other city leaders have accepted this sentiment strongly and argued that the proposed legislation would make the Milwaukee "next Detroit."
That may have proved to be wrong at this stage, and; the collection is not known what the vulnerability exists in the city, to inform the workers of the way, if the residency requirement were to be repealed. But it is a serious issue, which should not be dismissed.
I am proud of is a Milwaukee resident taxpaying. But not all Milwaukeeans have the mental. Oriented our suburbs are full of people who have fled the city for various reasons. Stories abound even suburbanites ignored Milwaukee Organized sports, entertainment or civic events. Naive to assume that the same should be gentle in the possession of some of the city are not workers.
Unfortunately, the editorial offered facile approach to this question: "If you're concerned about people, make the city a more attractive place to live"-as if no one has been found that yet, as the civil and business leaders is not expanding the maximum effort to this end the decades. None, but a simple task.
With the goal of remaining so elusive seems risky to open the exit doors to some of the finest of the inhabitants of Milwaukee's. If we had significant protests about this policy, any such change in the middle of the call. But we would show the solution to enrich and interventions in remote areas, the residents of these thousands of valued than it would be a risk of serious deterioration in order to put an end to the unnecessary requirement by completing the residency.
Detroit is not our model; Don't suppose we can keep it coming to our destiny.
