Wisconsin Badgers football - Barry Alvarez and the revival of Badger

Since playing their first football game in 1889, has the University of Wisconsin Badger football program his share of the heights and depths experienced. With a common data set ups have outweighed the downs, 614 WINS and 465 losses certainly, but if it was down there is for a longer period of time. For example, after their 1901 season of Badger teams suffered the team through what only when except is a period of 35 years who could - be complete mediocrity 1912 unbeaten season. A further thirty years poor performances and mediocre results after the Badgers 1962 occurred loss in the Rose Bowl. It would not until Barry Alvarez would start achieved, turn around the fortunes program as head coach of the team in 1990.

Alvarez the man

Barry Alvarez had a strong pedigree in college football when he arrived in Wisconsin. As a player in the 1960s, he was coached by the great Bob Devaney. Later he tried his hand as a high school coach in Nebraska and Iowa, until he received Wizard coaching position at the University of Iowa under the legendary Hawkeye coach Hayden FRY. Short time as an Assistant at the University of Notre Dame the Alvarez concluded trip to the Badgers at the door. His arrival at the school in the year 1990 was beginning the Badger rebirth - although game little reference to the excellent results was the first three seasons, which would soon follow.

Start a slow

Slightly less than spectacular as often happens with new vehicles, which were the early years of the Alvarez era. The first season campaign saw indeed, losing all but their eleven games, badgers. The next two seasons were somewhat better, with five or six loss record in each. Yet there have already been grumblings, the team was not quickly enough ahead. Began that everything began to change as the season in 1993.

Success at last

The ' 93 campaign saw an impressive Badger team charge by the big ten Conference won 10 of their 12 games, with a loss and a tie. It looked they head to the Rose Bowl - where she played and lost three times in its history above. Under Alvarez' leadership, but this Badger team played not only good, but won the Rose Bowl and Darden rankte as number six in the final AP poll of the season is at the end. The 1994 season was an 8 game season, and ended with a season of victory in the Hall of Fame Bowl. In the next eleven seasons the Badgers would suffer losing only two seasons and invites to different Bowl play over and over again would get. Impressively, the programme for the 1998 and 1999 seasons, after the Rose Bowl back both win. When he left the program after the 2005, the most successful coach in the history of the program left an indisputable fact: Wisconsin football was finally back!
